Questionnaire

I decided to produce a questionnaire to help produce some qood quality audience feedback along side my facebook focus group. I asked percific questions which would relate to my products to get a good idea of what my target audience liked in a magazine.
In my questionnaire i asked the following questions...

Male or femal?

Age?

Genre of music?

Free products with your magazine?

Would you like to know about new unsigned acts?
Price range of magazine?

How often would they buy the product?

Favourtie colours?

How they get there music- CD, Illegal downloading, Legal downloading?

Which front cover stands out the most?

Why?

Do they prefer pictures or magazines?

What i found out about this questionnaire...

I asked 16 males this questionnaire, all 16 of them were in the age of 16-24. This is the age group which i am focusing my target audience on. All 12 of them most listened to rock/metal/punk music genre, the rest of them listened to a variety of genres and didn't just stick to one. All 16 males would like to purchase free products with their magazine. They mentioned CD's, calenders, posters and a extra magazine about niche music labels and bands. CD's could include songs from niche bands and artisit to get them noticed more. All 16 of the boys would like to find out about unsigned acts, so this could be a good idea. But three of them said they wouldn't want to find out about too many of them and would rather just focus on the mainstream artists. Everyone would pay around, £1 being the lowest up to a high amount of £5 when purchasing the magazine, They said it would all depend on the froncover on the magazine. What the dominant image would be, which bands or artisits featured on the cover and what genre of music it was about. The averyage the guys would pay was £2.50 which is an anverage price range for all magazines. 9/16 said they would buy the magazine weekly. 7/16 would buy the magazine monthly. I asked the guys if they illegal download of do they purchase songs from shops off legal websites which you pay for the music you want to purchase. 14/16 said they illegal download, that just leaves 2% of which would pay for their music. This leaves insitutions and businesses in a lot of trouble.

I gave them a choice out of a few different front covers on which one they prefered.
1. 9/16 chose this front cover. They said the bold writing caught their eye, and the picture is ' in your face'. The colour scheme used expreses the vibrant colours in contrast to Hayley Williams hair. The dominant image stands out on the page. The advertisment of the Leeds festival interested them as it is a very popular festival.

2. 5-16 chose this front cover. They said that the yellow bold font stood out on the page and the domninant image was very unique and eye cathcing. They have used a very popular band so it will sell the magazine more.

3. 2-16 chose this front cover. It was the least one that interested them. They said Lily Allen is sex icon and they like the use of the plain layout. It doesn't come across ot too crouded and full with information but this is always a negative as it could do with some more eye catching headlines.

I asked 20 females this questionnaire and all of them were in the age of 16-24. 6/20 favourite genre wass metal/punk/rock. 5/20 favourtie genre was Rnb/hiphop. 7/20 favourtie genre was indie. 2-20 favourite genre was pop. All 20 of them would like any type of free products when they buy a magazine. And all 20 of them would like to know about new unsigned acts. The average price range they would pay for their magazine was £2.00. 10/20 would purchase this magazine fortnightly. 7-20 would purchase this magazine weekly and the other 3 of them would purchase it monthly. Six of the females chose magazine number 1. because of the image which is on the front and because of the ineteresting writing used. Two of them chose front cover number 2. They like the use of colour choice and how much writing was used on the front cover. and eleven of them chose number 3. they said the image was very powerful and they liked the puns used on the cover. And they liked the layout as it was very simple compared to the other two. Most of the females buy CD's but 10% of them Illegal download their music.

What i have found out from all the research will help me with my production. I am going to base my magazine for females and males as they both like to read about their favourite band or artist. My genre is going to be indie/punk. I am going to use bright bold colours for information that i want to stand out on my page, but also stick to a simple colour code so it doesnt look too busy and messy. Im going to vary my images and texts as 16-24's dont like to read too much, but they like to know key points.

The image on the front of my cover will be eye catching, i want to use something unquie and 'weird' but what will also look good. My picture will be in a medium shot and the name of the band or artist will be overlapping it. I want to include information about vestivals in my magazine as i think this will help sell it more as some of them are very popular for my target audience espically 'Leeds Fest'.

I found out that 70% of teens illegal download music off the internet, to prevent this i am going to put a free CD in my magazine every two weeks. But i would sell it every week.
