Question 4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

My target audience is females and males aged 14-25. I have made my products to appeal to a wider audience as this way will get more publicity and profit out of the magazine. i have used a mixture of professional pictures and my pictures which I have took in this 'Glogster' poster. I have included bands which they most listen to for example, Hadouken, Ting Tings, You Me At Six, Cher Lloyd, The Drums and Biffy Clyro. Some of these are mentioned onto my front cover of my magazine to catch the eye of the readers as these came across as some of their favourite bands. The genre of my music that I have chosen is Pop/Punk. I have used images such as ipods, tapes, drum sticks and a logo for a social networking site (Facebook) becuase these are some of the hobbies that my target audience like to do. On the ipod most of the time and almost getting addicted to social networking sites such as Facebook.

Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Question 2: How did you represent social groups?

Evaluation Question1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Final Products.

Print shots of progress of work.

My work started off with this image being the fron cover. I thought it looked really effective but it had no style and uniqueness. I wanted a location which makes the audience catch their eye. As I used www.dafont.com to choose a font which I thought went well with the cover. I added it using photoshop. Magazine's look professional by over lapping images and text, this is what I need to do to improve the title on my front cover. Also using a more distinctive and powerful colour like red would maybe catch the reader attension more. Indesgin helped me create my contents page for my magazine. Using a guide and boxes helped me insert images and overlapping made it looked proffessional. I also changed the title to red to make it stand out.

I added more text around the image. My bands name is in a red font and also a black outline makes it stand out. I think I need to include a different range of images and text to make the page look more buys and professional.

My front cover underneath has also developed with colours and a different image. The image now catches the readers eye with simular colurs used and also the editing of bluring the background to make the models stand out. I made the background black and white as well to create contrast. This is the final image I chose for my front cover. I think my fonts and colour scheme match in really well, they are bold and vibrant. I think it works better with 3 members in the band instead of just 2. More of my target audience can relate to them more.

Photo Shoot Images.

These images here are of the band 'The Drums', they were featured in the 'NME'magazine. I really liked the idea of the ruggered beach theme which has been put across. The tight stripped tee shirt look is really effective in the way it suggests a sailor theme. I wanted to include girls into my band so I could be more creative in what their costume would be.

After drawing up my flat plans and planning what would be featured onto my magazine I went on to plan what type of photos I needed to produce. Here are the best pictures I took using a digital camera at the studio and Saltburn Beach

I used a high saturation within this photo, as it captured the whiteness of my background with contrast with the colours of her costume( navy). As the model's top has white stipes featured on it, it stands out from the background quite effectivly. She is framed more to the left of the page as it creates more power and more dominant towards to audience. I used the traditional microphone as it shows she is a singer but also a more classic but modern approach towards the artist. Comparing this to her costume, which you can see, she is wearing short highwasted shorts, a stripey sailor top and emphasiing on the bow in her hair, she comes across to the audience as a stylish icon which my target audience can look up to.

Here is one of my male models. I have used closed framing to emphasise on his facial features and also his accessorie, the sailor hat. I used this prop as my location is set on a beach and my whole theme is beach and sailored themed. And against this white background it really blends in well. You can just about see his top and his cardigan which is also navy and sticking to the sailor theme. His eye line is high as it's to suggest power but he's looking down which connnotes he may come across quite shy to the audience.

Here, shows all three models. I have made the two female models stand at the front, posing a strong pose. They also will attract the readers eye's as they have sexual features which will catch the readers eye and draw them into the magazine. I will probably use this for my magazine front cover as music magazines dont tend to always use medium shots for the front cover.

ADD PIC

I have used a staggered effect on this image below. I think it creates a really good effect. I have placed Rachelo at the front as I thinkher features are very attractive and will stand out more to the readers. People can also look at ther outfit and want to follow her style. Also I chose to shoot in the location as my theme was a ruggered beach and sailor look and I think this created it quite well.

A low angle long shot. I think this is a really creative shot, as it captures all three members. It captures them looking professional and orignal. The models stood against the wall makes contrast with the costume which they are wearing. Could do with some editing, maybe brighteningthe contast and editing out blemishes. A close up shot, using high depth of field. The red accessorie which some of the models have been wearing, I placed on the sand and captured the contrast between the brightness of the sunglasses on the dull sand. Also in the distnace is my male model, by using a high depth of field, blurs him out but stil seeing him knows this picture relates with the band. Editing the background and making it lighter will show the location at its best and make it look sunny and bright. The pictures above I have tried to create a simular look to the professional pictures of 'The Drums'. I think I have made a good job of this and I have made it more 'real' for my target audience to relate to by using younger models. And also using not just men but a mixture of males and females.

Alex: actually a fan came up with this name, we were doing one of our first gigs in Newcastle Uni and we didn’t have a name for our new song we were going to play so we asked someone and they came up with that haha.
Oh right that’s pretty cool
Nathan: It’s quite an upbeat song, the crowd loved it, you can really jump around and just go crazy to it.
Rachel: there’s a lot of dynamics you can create with it as well.
Alex: a lot of what?
Do you have a runny nose Rachel?
Rachel: haha yes I do, a very runny nose, it’s just that time of the year when I tend to get colds, god I hate them,

Rachel: Topshop wooo! Yeah I’m a more of a Topshop girl, but I like to find unique clothes to wear, I hate wearing the same thing as everyone else. Im obsessed with bows *big smile* I love them, they also remind me of lady gaga which gets my excited aha.

Nathan: I’m not! Urgh don’t even get me started with relationships.
Rachel: well I’ve been with my boyfriend for three years, and I would say its love. He’s in a band as well but there a bit more hardcore than us.
But isn’t it hard to spend time with each other? Aren’t you always busy with the band?
Rachel: well I always have time for him
Alex and Nathan look at each other in disgust *puke noise*
Anything to look forward to this year?
Rachel: To start out new tour
Alex: yeah man its guna be buzzing.
Nathan: yeah and rumours have been heard that were headlining some stage but it’s a secret *winks*

Real Article.

“AHOY THERE!”
We join the band ‘This is Momentary’ at our local beach to get some exclusive juicy gossip. After the finishing touches of their photo shoot they just had in the freezing cold, we pop to the finest chip shop in Saltburn to get a bite to eat and a quick chat.
This new band has been heading up, ever since they have started in 2009. They were voted into the Kerrang awards for Best British Newcomer before they had even released any material and after supporting Fightstar and Biffy Clyro they funny enough won it! Chuffed, happy faces are still across their faces. Even in this cold English weather. They’re about to release their first album in May 2010 and to be honest we can’t wait to hear what they’ve got!
The new fresh band gets down to business and tells us all about their lives before Momentary. The band has originally been together for about four years, but has only just started to get noticed this past year. The love and passion for music inspired our students from Newcastle to produce a band such as themselves. “The music these days is very mainstream and we just wanted to do something different and exciting” Alex feels as if their music is one of a kind and I agree and I’m sure quite a few other people do as well. “There’s so many erm shitty little ‘emo’ bands out there now and we wanted to create something PURE CLASS!” Rachel told R! Hmm I wonder who these little shitty bands are...
I was really interested in who came up with the name. It’s quite a unique name don’t you think? “I came up with the name” Lauren tells us with pride. “No no no no no” Alex points to himself. “It was at that gig, y’know the time we got smashed!” Heads were shaking and confused expressions were across the band members faces. There must have been a mix-up somewhere. They go on and explain the gig they were at, at the time the band got named. “Well... it was actually when we were driving down the motorway to this gig and we saw a big sign on the road, it was a picture of some sort and I think we just all had a big brainstorm and came up with it.” – Its pretty impressive I must say.
“IM A FAILURE! HA! I didn’t get a job or go to Uni, I just toured around for a bit by myself before I met these guys. I played a few gigs here and there but it didn’t really work out *laughs*.” Alex tells R! What a lazy bugger. The rest of the band went to Uni, Lauren and Rachel loved it, “the night life is buzzing!” Momentary all met up one night in a bar in good old Geordie land after a hard working day at college, apart from Alex of course. It was an open mic night and each one of them got up and showed the audience what they were made of and basically it all started from there.
“Florence and the machine and Larox really inspire me, they have so much enthusiasm.”
This time next week Alex will be seeing marina and the diamonds live at Leeds University. (You can find tickets for this at www.ticketforyou.com) What bands have you seen live? Anyone we should be looking out for? “Well my best gig last year was Hadouken, they were unreal! I actually can’t describe how good they were. I defiantly suggest you go and see them soon. There really nice guys as well.” Rachel gets very excited as she talks about them. Alex winks and tells us she has a soft spot for one of them. We try and talk to them about their love life. “Alex fantasises over Pixie Lott!” Lauren bursts out and tells us. “I’m sure it was Ellie Goulding last week?” A fit of giggles go around the table. Alex is now going bright red. Haha is this true Alex? “Yes yes, who wouldn’t though?” Yes I will admit our Pixie is quite a stunner and so is Goulding. Have any of you got boyfriends or girlfriends? “Well I’ve been with my boyfriend for three years, and I would say its love. He’s in a band as well but there a bit more hardcore than us.” Rachel tells R with proud. But the rest of the just shake their heads and raise their eyebrows, must be a touchy subject. It must be hard to spend time alone with each other? “ Well we always make time for each other.” Alex and Lauren look at each other and make sick noises.

“I owe everything in Topman, I’m like a girl when it comes to shopping!” That’s a risky thing to admit Alex. “Yeah I know but I hate it when girls like to shop in there it’s just like YOU HAVE TOPSHOP!!” I think shopping is a soft spot for Alex. Rachel says she’s a Topshop girl aswell, “I don’t like to wear what everyone else wears, I like to be different and I LOVE bows *big smile* they also remind me of Lady GaGa which gets me all Excited!” but on the other hand Lauren is more of a girly girl. But she also loves to lounge around in joggers and a Tee. Who doesn’t?
I hear your performing in T4 on the beach, is this true guys? “HELL YEAH!! We’re all so excited for it; it will be our first proper festival. It’s actually going to be right here in Saltburn!” Can you believe it? I think all of us are pretty excited for it. Florence, Hadouken, Ellie Goulding, Bom Bay Bicycle Club, White Lies, Vampire Weekend, Dizzie rascal, Joe Mcelderry, 3OH3, You me at six and loads more to be announced.
Well we want all the best for you. And we will defiantly be there at T4 on the Beach, it’s too good to miss. “ Thankyou, and this interview has been pretty sweet. We’d like to do it again sometime. But we have one for surprise for you.” Rachel says with pride. Oh my god what is it? “Well... We have a newcomer joining our band.” You do? “Yeah, it’s her boyfriend!” Alex points to Rachel and rolls his eyes. He doesn’t look best pleased. “HEY! Be happy guys. *laughs* Yeah my boyfriend is coming to join us for a year or two. And I can’t wait. It’s going to be very weird working with him and recording stuff with him but were hoping to record a duet this month sometime, maybe something more soft and acoustic, to show people we can actually sing. We’re hoping to perform it at T4 but shhhhhh!”
3rd April 2010 tickets go on sale- T4 on the beach.

Questionnaire

I decided to produce a questionnaire to help produce some qood quality audience feedback along side my facebook focus group. I asked percific questions which would relate to my products to get a good idea of what my target audience liked in a magazine.
In my questionnaire i asked the following questions...

Male or femal?

Age?

Genre of music?

Free products with your magazine?

Would you like to know about new unsigned acts?
Price range of magazine?

How often would they buy the product?

Favourtie colours?

How they get there music- CD, Illegal downloading, Legal downloading?

Which front cover stands out the most?

Why?

Do they prefer pictures or magazines?

What i found out about this questionnaire...

I asked 16 males this questionnaire, all 16 of them were in the age of 16-24. This is the age group which i am focusing my target audience on. All 12 of them most listened to rock/metal/punk music genre, the rest of them listened to a variety of genres and didn't just stick to one. All 16 males would like to purchase free products with their magazine. They mentioned CD's, calenders, posters and a extra magazine about niche music labels and bands. CD's could include songs from niche bands and artisit to get them noticed more. All 16 of the boys would like to find out about unsigned acts, so this could be a good idea. But three of them said they wouldn't want to find out about too many of them and would rather just focus on the mainstream artists. Everyone would pay around, £1 being the lowest up to a high amount of £5 when purchasing the magazine, They said it would all depend on the froncover on the magazine. What the dominant image would be, which bands or artisits featured on the cover and what genre of music it was about. The averyage the guys would pay was £2.50 which is an anverage price range for all magazines. 9/16 said they would buy the magazine weekly. 7/16 would buy the magazine monthly. I asked the guys if they illegal download of do they purchase songs from shops off legal websites which you pay for the music you want to purchase. 14/16 said they illegal download, that just leaves 2% of which would pay for their music. This leaves insitutions and businesses in a lot of trouble.

I gave them a choice out of a few different front covers on which one they prefered.
1. 9/16 chose this front cover. They said the bold writing caught their eye, and the picture is ' in your face'. The colour scheme used expreses the vibrant colours in contrast to Hayley Williams hair. The dominant image stands out on the page. The advertisment of the Leeds festival interested them as it is a very popular festival.

2. 5-16 chose this front cover. They said that the yellow bold font stood out on the page and the domninant image was very unique and eye cathcing. They have used a very popular band so it will sell the magazine more.

3. 2-16 chose this front cover. It was the least one that interested them. They said Lily Allen is sex icon and they like the use of the plain layout. It doesn't come across ot too crouded and full with information but this is always a negative as it could do with some more eye catching headlines.

I asked 20 females this questionnaire and all of them were in the age of 16-24. 6/20 favourite genre wass metal/punk/rock. 5/20 favourtie genre was Rnb/hiphop. 7/20 favourtie genre was indie. 2-20 favourite genre was pop. All 20 of them would like any type of free products when they buy a magazine. And all 20 of them would like to know about new unsigned acts. The average price range they would pay for their magazine was £2.00. 10/20 would purchase this magazine fortnightly. 7-20 would purchase this magazine weekly and the other 3 of them would purchase it monthly. Six of the females chose magazine number 1. because of the image which is on the front and because of the ineteresting writing used. Two of them chose front cover number 2. They like the use of colour choice and how much writing was used on the front cover. and eleven of them chose number 3. they said the image was very powerful and they liked the puns used on the cover. And they liked the layout as it was very simple compared to the other two. Most of the females buy CD's but 10% of them Illegal download their music.

What i have found out from all the research will help me with my production. I am going to base my magazine for females and males as they both like to read about their favourite band or artist. My genre is going to be indie/punk. I am going to use bright bold colours for information that i want to stand out on my page, but also stick to a simple colour code so it doesnt look too busy and messy. Im going to vary my images and texts as 16-24's dont like to read too much, but they like to know key points.

The image on the front of my cover will be eye catching, i want to use something unquie and 'weird' but what will also look good. My picture will be in a medium shot and the name of the band or artist will be overlapping it. I want to include information about vestivals in my magazine as i think this will help sell it more as some of them are very popular for my target audience espically 'Leeds Fest'.

I found out that 70% of teens illegal download music off the internet, to prevent this i am going to put a free CD in my magazine every two weeks. But i would sell it every week.

PhotoShoot Plans.

Before I begin shooting for my products I have designed a plan which entails the different lighting and framing which will take place during my photo shoot.
Make your own drawings at SketchfuMore from this artist at SketchfuShare this drawing from Sketchfu

I have used one light and a white background to make the models costumer stand out more from the white background used. But I also used a bigger flash to emphasie the colour of the clothing and esppically the big bow in her hair, which is one of themian features on the model.

Potential Location: My first location for my photo shoot will be set in the photo studio. This is for my front cover and maybe have a few photos for my contents page.
Is it suitable?: Yes this location is suitable as i need the appropriate lighting and a blank background for my front cover. I wanted a blank background for the cover as then it wont seem cluttered and un-organised. This way it will be much easier to focus on the main artist.

Potential Location: My second and last location is going to be at Saltburn seaside. This is for my double page spread and some of my contents page.
Photograph:
Is it suitable?: This location is suitable as my theme for my magazine is 'sailor' and 'festivals. I will be using the colours, navy blue, black and white. I wanted to create a abandoned look for my band. But also my magazine will feature festivals and this is one of the locations the band is going to be playing at, so it will advertise that as well.

Risk Assesment.

Mood Board.

mood board.

My mood Board.

My colour scheme I am going to use: Navy blue, black and white, a 'sailor' theme. The colours are stylish and modern. My magazine is going to consit of information about festivals; crazy wellies, tents etc. My band Is going to be called 'This is Momentary' there going to be dressed in the colour code for my magazine. But each of the models i am using will wear a red accessory to brighten up the page.

Some fonts are used here to show a range of different ones i may use. I am going to call my magazine 'RADAR', as i think it is a catchy name and the readers will remember it well. I want my magazine to look retro and old school. One girl from the band in my magazine will be featured on the front cover as i think it will help sell the magazine, this is why i have used a few women in my mood board as i want to make her look unique and eye catching.
I have chosen the idea festivals as most of my target audience likes to go to them, i found this out from my questionnaire i did.
